A personality test is a quick way for companies to assess one’s interests, temperament, and customer service skills.

Basic Math Test

Math tests, or numerical reasoning tests, are a common way to assess one’s basic logic and reasoning skills. Call centers often require employees to possess basic math skills for completing numerical tasks on computers. These tests aim to determine your proficiency in working with simple calculations and understanding data. An example of a basic math question goes as followed.

Answer: C

Call Center SJT Test

A situational judgment test (SJT) assesses your ability to select the best options for responding in the workplace. The tests contain hypothetical questions designed to test one’s psychological aptitude. At a call center, this may involve difficult situations with customers that require you to respond in a professional way so as not to escalate the situation. These tests can have multiple choice questions or a scale in which to rate questions from best to worst. An example of an SJT question would be as followed.

Question:

One of your colleagues keeps redirecting their difficult customers to you. What do you do?

  1. Vocally decline the customer and redirect them back.
  2. Discuss the situation with your colleague after work.
  3. Talk with your manager about resolving it.
  4. Continue accepting the customers because it gives you good experience.

Answers:  

  1. This answer is the least effective response. Starting a scene in front of the customer is unprofessional.
  2. This is the most effective response. Perhaps your colleague is unaware of what he is doing and doesn’t mean to redirect customers onto you, or maybe he is having a hard time.
  3. This is an effective response, but talking with your colleague should come first.
  4. Although this option could enhance your skills in the workforce, it encourages your colleague to redirect customers onto other workers who may struggle with the extra work.
